Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day – ideally enjoyed outside in the sun with a good oat latte. Over the years, I’ve tested plenty of cafés in my hometown Berlin, always paying attention to three things: the quality of the coffee, the atmosphere (bonus points for sunny outdoor seating!), and the menu – is it a small but well-curated selection, or a wide variety to choose from?

In this guide, I’m sharing my favorite breakfast spots in Berlin that tick all these boxes.

A Never Ever Ending Love Story, Mitte

First things first. Probably my favorite coffee shop in Berlin and a place I always return to! This café belongs to the same owners as What do you fancy love? and Coffee Drink Your Monkey, but compared to the other locations, A Never Ever Ending Love Story feels more spacious and has a nicer atmosphere – perfect for a long, relaxed breakfast.

The food quality is consistently good across all their cafés, but here I especially love the juices and smoothies. Daniel usually goes for the bagels or muesli, while I can never decide between scrambled eggs on sourdough bread (or take the one with truffle & Parmesan if you feel extra), French toasts, or blueberry pancakes (or all of the above). I also always take the Green Love juice with apple, cucumber, ginger, lemon, and celery, while Daniel always opts for the Freaky Fresh (raspberry, mint, lemon, apple). Either way, you can’t really go wrong with any of the dishes or juices. But be aware: the portions are huge. You really need to come hungry – but the prices are fair, so it’s absolutely worth it.

Townhouse Berlin, Mitte

Added in 2025! If you’re looking for a more classic, hotel-style breakfast with an American twist, the Townhouse Berlin is a great option. I’ve stayed here multiple times, and the breakfast never disappoints: think fluffy pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and freshly baked pastries. The setting is bright and relaxed, and in warmer months you can enjoy your breakfast in the lovely garden – a peaceful spot to start the day. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just stopping by, it’s a great choice for a hearty morning in Berlin.

Venue, Neukölln

Venue instantly reminded me of a café in Copenhagen (Mad & Coffee) – not only in style, but also with its menu concept. Instead of ordering one large dish, you can mix and match from a range of smaller plates at fair prices. Think avocado, mini pancakes, scrambled eggs, homemade spreads… depending on your appetite, you can put together your own breakfast combo of 3, 5, or 7 tapas. Prices range from around €7 to €13 (as of 2019, sorry, I don’t live in Berlin anymore!).

It’s the perfect option for anyone who likes a mix of sweet and savory on their plate. The coffee is excellent as well, with plenty of milk alternatives available – a big plus for me. Payment is cash only, but the staff is very relaxed about it. Seating is outside on the sidewalk, which might not sound glamorous, but it’s actually a great spot for people-watching. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a celebrity or two strolling past.

Father Carpenter, Mitte

We discovered Father Carpenter during a Christmas trip home when we stayed in a hotel nearby. Tucked away in one of Berlin-Mitte’s beautiful brick courtyards, the café already makes a great impression before you even step inside.

The menu offers an exciting mix of classics and international twists: think Eggs Benedict, pancakes, and porridge alongside beetroot hummus or overnight chipotle beans. The coffee is excellent, which probably explains the long line at the entrance – though luckily, the wait moves quickly. The interior is stylish and modern, but the tables are packed quite closely, so it can feel a bit crowded. Still, Father Carpenter is absolutely worth a visit if you’re after great coffee and a more creative breakfast menu in the heart of Berlin.

Kaffeehaus Zeltinger, Frohnau

A traditional German breakfast usually means a bread basket with rolls and brioche, cold cuts, cheese, soft-boiled eggs, and sweet spreads like jam or Nutella. While I usually lean more towards the French or American style (nothing beats pancakes in the morning!), every now and then we go back to the classic – and for that, Kaffeehaus Zeltinger in Frohnau is our place of choice.

This traditional coffee house in northern Berlin has been around for almost a century. Back in the day, it was a popular spot for the city’s high society to enjoy coffee, cakes, and ice cream during polo matches and summer retreats. Today, it still serves high-quality, very traditional German breakfasts.

It’s definitely different from the other coffee shops/breakfast places I recommend, but it’s worth a visit if you’d like to experience a classic German-style breakfast. Sitting in their garden or on the veranda, you also get a glimpse of suburban life in Berlin. Note: they don’t offer milk alternatives here – but their sister café Picadilly across the street does.

Die Stulle, Charlottenburg

Speaking of traditional German breakfast…  “Stulle” is the German word for a slice of bread with toppings – and this café takes that tradition and gives it a modern twist. On the menu you’ll find endless variations: walnut bread, coarse rye, or classic sourdough, topped with avocado, sprouts, hummus, eggs, feta, bacon, and more. You’ll also spot German breakfast staples like Strammer Max.

This has been one of my all-time favorite breakfast spots in Berlin for years. It’s always lively and often packed, so definitely make a reservation if you want to avoid waiting.

Zimt & Zucker, Schöneberg

Newly added in 2025! Caféhaus Zimt & Zucker has quickly become one of my go-to spots in Schöneberg. The café has a warm, welcoming vibe and a breakfast menu that ticks all the boxes – from hearty options to sweet indulgences. Their pancakes are a highlight, fluffy and generously portioned, but you’ll also find a wide variety of other dishes to mix and match depending on your mood.

It almost feels like sitting in a big, Berlin-style living room – at someone’s home, really. That cozy, laid-back atmosphere makes it just as fitting for a long weekend brunch as for a quick weekday breakfast. If you’re looking for a café with plenty of choice and consistently good food, Zimt & Zucker is a solid pick.

Distrikt Coffee, Mitte

Distrikt Coffee has been a favorite on the Berlin breakfast scene for quite a while – and for good reason. The menu is compact but well-curated, offering staples like buttermilk pancakes, a breakfast brioche bun, and an everything bagel.

The café itself has that trendy, minimalist “Berlin-Mitte” look, though you’d usually expect this style more in Kreuzberg or Neukölln. The real highlight, though, is the coffee: the baristas serve everything from espresso drinks to slow-filter Kalita brews, making Distrikt one of the first cafés in Mitte to embrace specialty coffee in that way. It’s not quite in my personal world Top 5, but it comes close.

I hope I could inspire you and that you’ll enjoy these breakfast places as much as I do. Do you know other cafés or spots in Berlin that shouldn’t be missing on this list? Feel free to share your favorites in the comments – I’d love to discover more!
