With Singapore entering phase two of reopening the economy, there are plenty of brunch spots that I like to try or re-visit after sitting at home for over three months. Here are the brunch and breakfast places I have either caught an eye on or can recommend for you to try.
Singapore has just entered phase two of reopening the economy a few weeks ago and I haven’t made it to any brunch place so far, even though breakfast was the one meal I was craving the most during Circuit Breaker. When it comes to breakfast, I don’t think that you can really order the food and expect it to be as good as it would be in the outlet. Hence, during the lockdown, we would usually prepare our own breakfast. From time to time, we went to Merci Marcel or to Tiong Bahru Bakery next door to buy a fresh chocolate croissant, but other than that, we usually just cooked at home. Now, with restrictions easing and restaurants and coffee shops open their doors to indoor dining again (funny enough the word is misleading, I for instance prefer sitting outside – but that’s a different story), I cannot wait to go to my favorite brunch and breakfast places and enjoy a good stack of pancakes in another environment than my own balcony. Here are my top breakfast places in Singapore that I cannot wait to visit very soon:
Merci Marcel
56 Eng Hoon St, #01-68, Singapore 160056
This French place is so different from other breakfast places in Singapore. On their menu, you will find typical French dishes such as Tarte Flambée, Seared foie gras, and Ravioles de Royans but also international breakfast options with a French twist (Croque Marcel, French toast. I particularly adore their Pain Au Chocolate and went a few times during Circuit Breaker to get my hands on the fresh baked good. Also, their coffee isn’t bad.
Common Man Coffee Roasters
22 Martin Rd, #01-00, Singapore 239058
The baristas at Common Man Coffee Roasters not only brew my favorite coffee in town, they also serve excellent breakfast. On the menu, you find international favorites like Pancakes or Granola, but also special dishes like Sautéed Kale & Egg White Scramble or tender braised ox cheeks with Eggs Benedict. However, it is on the pricer side, unfortunately, though I appreciate the environment and their large outdoor space.

Forty Hands
56 Eng Hoon St, #01-68, Singapore 160056
How come I somehow think that the Forty Hands is related to the Common Man Coffee Roasters? At least, they serve the excellent CMCR coffee but also the menu looks quite similar to the Common Man’s. Located in Tiong Bahru, the location is quite different from the posh outlet on Martin Road and the near distance to fancy boutiques and hip shops in the quaint shop houses might be better for a start into the weekend.
FIVE OARS COFFEE ROASTERS
39 Tg Pagar Rd, Singapore 088462
Five Oars Coffee Roasters offers to relax in its minimalist coffeehouse in Tanjong Pagar and is said to be Melbourne-café inspired. Their day menu offers over 20 dishes that go beyond the usual eggs and toast and come in the most beautiful arrangements that indeed remind me of places I’ve visited in Melbourne. Their coffee comes in “Black” and “White” and is rather on the fruity side, which is also very much Melbournian-style. Overall, this place is one of my favorites in Singapore, and I will make sure to go there for Sunday brunch with friends on a regular basis.

Craftsmen Specialty Coffee (Clarke Quay Central)
6 Eu Tong Sen St, 01-59, Singapore 059817
Craftsmen is actually known for their excellent coffee, however, their breakfast and brunch menu isn’t too bad either. The food is largely Western-influenced with sandwiches, baked goods, and desserts. The ambiance at Craftsmen Specialty Coffee outlets sports a retro industrial look that reminds me of New York.
Group Therapy
181 South Bridge Road #01-05, K1-04, Singapore 058743
This is actually not a therapy though their food can be seen as somewhat therapeutic. In my opinion, in this place, you will find the best pancakes in Singapore. They just moved from the 2nd story of a reconstructed shop house in the newly gentrified Duxton enclave to a bigger place in Cross Street Exchange where they also offer outdoor seating, and I am excited to check that out.
Tiong Bahru Bakery
#B1-11 Raffles City Shopping Centre, 252 North Bridge Road
To be fair, I never had breakfast in Tiong Bahru Bakery yet, just coffee and some pastries and bread on the side. However, I haven’t been to their Raffles Place outlet neither and just found out, that they serve some pancakes called “Breakfast Burger” that looks bomb dot com. From their outlet in Tiong Bahru, I know that the coffee is excellent, too, as they use CMCR beans.
